A practical guide to duvets

A practical guide to duvets

During sleep, our body temperature fluctuates, leading to sweating or feeling cold. Both reactions disturb sleep considerably, as they slow down the body’s physiological functions.

Our body temperature (usually around 36.6°C) drops by approximately 1°C at night, reaching its lowest point around 5 a.m. If we are too warm, the deep sleep phase becomes very short. Extending it not only improves sleep quality but also enhances rest and helps the body regenerate. This is why what we sleep under is so important.

Various types of duvets are available on the market. The easiest way to categorise them is into those made from synthetic fibres and those made from natural fibres.

Synthetic-filled duvets – affordable and practical

Polyester, one of the most popular synthetic fillings, is not only inexpensive but also lightweight, durable, and resistant to stains and dirt. Duvets with this filling are very practical—they can be washed frequently. Unfortunately, they do not allow air to circulate well, which makes it easier to overheat under them. They also lose their loft quickly.

Down duvets – just like Grandma’s!

Who doesn’t remember the big, warm duvets from grandma? Down duvets, as we mean here, provide excellent insulation and are considered the warmest type of duvet. When choosing a down duvet, however, remember that down can trigger allergies.

Cotton duvet

Recommended for those who do not feel cold easily or who maintain a relatively constant bedroom temperature throughout the year. Cotton is a natural fibre with excellent absorbent properties. A cotton-filled duvet absorbs moisture from the body during sleep and helps regulate temperature.

Alpaca fibre duvets – the best choice, even for allergy sufferers

Unlike down, alpaca fibre does not cause allergies—it contains no lanolin, is not chemically treated, and is not washed with chemicals. Moreover, it does not retain moisture, creating a dry environment unfriendly to dust mites. Therefore, duvets filled with alpaca fibre are ideal for those suffering from various allergies and asthma. Both MyAlpaca pillows and duvets are recommended by the Polish Society of Allergology for allergy and asthma sufferers and are certified by Hipoalergiczni magazine.

Good filling is not everything

The most important element of a duvet is its filling, but to sleep well, the type of material surrounding it is also crucial. The best covers are made from natural materials, such as densely woven cotton. MyAlpaca duvets have 100% cotton covers, making them pleasant to the touch, breathable, and healthy.

No more slipping duvet corners!

Every duvet in the MyAlpaca collection has loops sewn into the binding. This allows you to easily attach it to a MyAlpaca duvet cover, which has special ties. As a result, the corners always stay in place—they won’t slip out of the cover, and the duvet won’t roll up. This small detail greatly improves both comfort and the quality of your sleep.
